Weight loss drugs have been the subject of many FDA warnings and recalls.  Recently, the FDA issued a warning, advising consumers to avoid Dr. Mao Slimming Capsules.  Various websites promoted Dr. Mao Slimming Capsules on the basis that they offered numerous benefits, including that it purportedly aided in burning body fat, it fostered weight loss of between two and five pounds a week and it contains natural extracts that increase fat loss and assist in weight loss, while leaving one without jitters or adverse side effects.

Unfortunately, however, the capsules also contained sibutramine.  Sibutramine is a controlled substance.  This particular substance was banned from the market in October 2010 after a link was found between the substance and a heightened risk of increased blood pressure and/or pulse rates in some patients.  Moreover, the drug posed an even greater risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke.  For patients who take other drugs, the Dr. Mao Slimming Capsules may pose additional risks.

It is important to remember that some weight loss supplements present substantial risks of side effects, as was found to be the case with Dr. Mao Slimming Capsules.  You should always consult a physician before embarking on a weight loss program.

The drug, which was promoted on web sites and in certain retail stores, should be thrown away immediately, according to the FDA.
