A church bus full of senior citizens returning from a gospel gathering was involved in a horrific crash on Thursday, October 3. The left front tire of the bus blew out, causing the driver to lose control and cross over from the eastbound side to oncoming westbound traffic. The bus then clipped an SUV, kept going, and finally smashed into an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer burst into flames, and was eventually charred beyond recognition. The bus flipped over. The driver of the tractor-trailer was killed, as was one passenger in the SUV. Six people in the bus were killed. The remains of those individuals were unable to be identified because the accident was so severe.
The bus did have seat belts, but it was not clear how many individuals were buckled in.
Bus accidents such as this one are particularly tragic, killing so many innocent victims in one instant. There are many potential causes of such an accident. Whether the tire was defective, the bus had not been properly maintained, or the bus driver was negligent, only an experienced bus attorney with the proper resources can uncover the causes of the accident and bring the accountable parties to justice.
